It’s time for schools to show off their #YoungEditors!

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has partnered with Gulf News to give students from Dubai private schools the chance to get their newsletters published in a national newspaper.

This is an opportunity for students to show their writing, photography and design skills to a UAE-wide audience – and possibly win an internship at Gulf News!
Gulf News will select the best 16 entries and publish one each Tuesday for 16 weeks. If your students would like to take part in #YoungEditors, please submit their newsletter to readers@gulfnews.com by Thursday, March 8.

THEMES
2018 was declared the Year of Zayed to mark the 100th birthday of HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE and the country’s first President. It is also the year in which to celebrate and understand HH Sheikh Zayed’s legacy, principles and values. His innovative vision was at the forefront of education when he said, “a country's greatest investment lies in building generations of educated and knowledgeable youth.”

The four themes of Year of Zayed are:

  • Wisdom - the willpower and determination to challenge and achieve the impossible with vision and patience;
  • Respect – the ability to welcome different races, religions and cultures;
  • Sustainability – preserving the environment by making it healthier; investing in education that focuses on advanced technology
  • Human Development - happiness and noble morals, concepts of giving and philanthropy, priority to developing the human element - the true resource of UAE.

At least one piece of content in the #YoungEditors newsletter must be linked to one or more of the themes above. These themes are intentionally broad to allow plenty of space for students’ own creative interpretation.
